As part of its regulatory mandate, PEO establishes, maintains and develops: standards of knowledge and skill; standards of practice for the profession; standards of professional ethics; and promotes public awareness of its role. Ontario professional engineers are part of a community of more than 87,500 PEO licence and certificate holders committed to enhancing the quality of life, safety and well-being in the province.
As Ontario’s engineering regulator, PEO relies heavily on its volunteers. More than 1,000 professional engineers, engineering interns and non-engineers volunteer their time each year on behalf of the association through their participation.
PEO's mandate, as described in the Professional Engineers Act, is to ensure that the public is protected and that individuals and companies providing engineering services uphold a strict code of professional ethics and conduct.

No. The WES course-by-course report is the required academic document for international non-CEAB candidates who graduated outside the United States. It does not impact the Technical Exam Requirement.
You cannot mark the Academic Information section complete until:
- An academic program is added to the application,
- We have received the required academic documents, and their receipt is reflected in the PEO portal, and
- (If you are a non-CEAB candidate) You have passed all four technical exams, and your results are shown.
No. Non-CEAB Candidates are eligible to apply if they have completed a bachelor’s degree listed on PEO’s Recognized Programs list (RPL) and have met PEO’s technical exam requirement. The application portal contains the current list of programs.
Only select a program from the RPL if it matches your academic credentials; otherwise, your application may be delayed or invalid. If your program is not listed, you can submit a Program Verification Request through the application portal to verify your credentials.
No, only candidates who complete a CEAB degree are CEAB candidates. All eligible international graduates are categorized as non-CEAB candidates and must meet our technical exam requirement.
There are no technical exam exemptions. All non-CEAB candidates must meet our technical exam requirement.
Yes. You may request a registration hearing after receiving a notice of proposal.
Yes, but you must meet the necessary qualifications to be eligible to apply.
Yes, if you are eligible to apply. During the application process, you will be presented with the accepted forms of ID.
PEO’s academic requirement for a P.Eng. is a bachelor’s degree in an engineering program accredited by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board (CEAB) or one listed on PEO's Recognized Programs List plus successful completion of a technical examination program. If you do not meet this requirement, consider applying for a limited licence if you meet the submission requirements.
