Engineering Intern (EIT) Program

PEO’s Engineering Intern (EIT) program provides guidance and assistance to engineering graduates.

Important changes to PEO’s Engineering Intern (EIT) program

The EIT program will no longer be offered to new applicants. Since the required engineering work experience under the new licensing process must be acquired before applying, the EIT program—which was designed to assist applicants as they acquired work experience—is no longer sustainable in its current form.

We are pleased to continue to support current P.Eng. applicants enrolled in the EIT program. Current EITs may remain in the program as long as they continue their current licensing process.

We understand the value the EIT designation holds for prospective applicants, as well as engineering employers and local chapters. As such, PEO will consult with our stakeholders to determine other options for prospective applicants seeking to gain experience.

Information about the Engineering Intern (EIT) program for current EITs

PEO’s Engineering Intern (EIT) program provides guidance and assistance to engineering graduates as they acquire the 48 months of acceptable engineering work experience, including annual reviews of experience to ensure that an applicant is “on the right track” for licensing. EIT program benefits include:

  • the opportunity to receive detailed, confidential, annual work experience reviews;

  • eligibility to participate in PEO’s Licensure Assistance Program;

  • access to Engineering Dimensions, PEO’s official journal;

  • opportunities to attend PEO and PEO chapter EIT seminars;

  • the opportunity to join a PEO chapter, attend meetings and network with professional colleagues;

  • email notices of events or items of interest pertaining to your development into a licensed engineer;

  • access to the PEO’s online portal;

  • the opportunity to participate in online discussions with other PEO members on the association’s LinkedIn discussion group; and

  • the opportunity to join the Ontario Society of Professional Engineers and participate in their member-only services, such as insurance and investment plans, and online Career Centre.

Please note that the EIT program does not place people in work situations, however, participants can attend chapter events where they can meet, socialize and network with professional engineers.

Engineering Intern fees

The annual fee for the EIT program is $90 + HST (total $101.70) and is in addition to the application fee.

Licensure Assistance Program

The PEO Licensure Assistance Program (LAP) gives the opportunity for experienced licensed professionals to transfer their skills and knowledge to aspiring EITs pursuing their engineering licence.
