2024 PEO Council Elections: Call for Candidates

Help build a stronger PEO by seeking a position on Council or by nominating a qualified colleague

Do you have a passion for engineering and serving and protecting the public interest? Do you want to play a key role in leading and guiding the regulation of professional engineering in Ontario?

Consider standing for election to serve on Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) Council—the governing body of Ontario’s engineering regulator.

PEO seeks candidates for election to Council who reflect the diversity of the engineering profession and who can guide, support and contribute as we work together to set PEO’s strategic direction; ensure our regulatory work is done efficiently and effectively; and continually improve and prepare for the future.

We are seeking candidates who:

  • Are committed to the mandate, vision and values of PEO, and share the regulator’s commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.
  • Have strong experience in one or more of the areas of governance, change management, marketing, finance, risk governance, strategic planning and talent management.
  • Are knowledgeable about board governance and understand the principles behind professional self-regulation.

To meet the demands of professional regulation, PEO needs elected Council members with a range of skills, experiences and personal characteristics. It needs engineers from a wide array of backgrounds: different ages, economic backgrounds, racial/ethnic backgrounds, gender and sexual identity; and detailed knowledge from a broad range of disciplines, industries and sectors.

As a PEO Councillor, consider the impact you can make by influencing regulatory initiatives and critical policy issues at the profession’s highest level.

NEW FOR 2024: All candidates must complete “Boards Basics” orientation training by December 31, 2023. Click here to access the training module.

Nominations open on October 16. But hurry—you only have until November 24 to nominate yourself or a fellow engineer.

This year, PEO is introducing changes to its election process aimed at ensuring PEO Council elections are fair and transparent, and that will increase public, licence holder and stakeholder confidence in the process. The changes are effective for PEO’s 2024 elections cycle. Key reforms include:

  • The Chief Elections Officer’s role and process for determining candidate material compliance prior to publishing by PEO has been clarified to enhance transparency and fairness.
  • Candidates must now complete a PEO “Board Basics” orientation to enhance understanding of their potential roles and responsibilities as Councillors.
  • Candidates must now complete PEO’s mandatory compliance training for volunteers (if elected.)
  • The prohibition on endorsement by individual Councillors has been removed.
