Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) installed Leila Notash, PhD, P.Eng., FEC as its 107th president at PEO’s 104th Annual General Meeting (AGM), held on April 25, 2026, in Ottawa.
President Notash is a Professor Emerita in the Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering at Queen’s University and has held a PEO licence since 1996. She has volunteered with PEO since 2003 and brings extensive experience in engineering regulation and governance. Her leadership roles have included vice chair and chair of PEO’s Academic Requirements Committee, as well as vice chair of the Kingston Chapter. President Notash is a longstanding advocate for equity, diversity and inclusion and has championed EDI initiatives in both academic and professional settings.
At the AGM, PEO also introduced its Council for the 2026–2027 term. The 27 members of Council govern PEO’s 98,000 licence and certificate holders and regulate the practice of professional engineering in Ontario to serve and protect the public interest.
At their inaugural meeting following the AGM, Council appointed Rachel Prudhomme, BEng, MSc, P.Eng., BPHE as Council Chair.
Council also appointed the following committee chairs:
- Audit and Finance: Susan Jingmiao Shi, MEng, P.Eng.
- Governance and Nominating: Susan MacFarlane, MSc, PhD, P.Eng.
- Human Resources and Compensation: Uditha Senaratne, P.Eng., FEC
- Regulatory Policy and Legislation: Ahmed Elshaer, PhD, P.Eng.
- Regional Councillors: Luc Roberge, P.Eng., FEC
- Executive: Rachel Prudhomme, BEng, MSc, P.Eng., BPHE
The new Council reflects province‑wide representation from a broad range of sectors. The composition and operation of Council are set out in Regulation 941 under the Professional Engineers Act. Most councillors are elected by PEO's licence holders. Currently, 11 councillors are appointed by the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, four of whom are public members.
