Engineering Regulator Recognizes Chatham Engineer for Commitment to Education Outreach Initiatives

PRESS RELEASE

Toronto – (May 2, 2016) – In recognition of 15 years of tireless contributions to furthering the development of current and future licence holders, Angela R. Scott, P.Eng., FEC, of Chatham, has been named a Member of the Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) Order of Honour. She was inducted into the Order at an April 29 gala in Toronto.

Since 2001, Scott has excelled in leadership roles on the executive of the Chatham-Kent Chapter, first as education coordinator, and finally as vice-chair and chair. She was instrumental in developing the chapter’s education outreach program, which includes classroom visits, design competitions, a bursary program and highly successful engineering PA day camps run by engineers and local high school students. She also developed and organized engineering competitions to include in local National Engineering Month activities, providing hundreds of students an opportunity to have fun while exploring the profession each year.

Scott says she believes many young people discount engineering as a potential career option before they fully understand what the profession is all about. By demonstrating that engineering isn’t merely doing calculations all day, and often involves working in teams to build a solution to benefit society, she says we can help create a more diverse group of students to consider engineering as their future career.

An active participant in both the outreach and governance of the profession, Scott has served on PEO’s Advisory Committee on Volunteers and the Education Committee’s conference organizing committee and has coordinated numerous seminars for and directly assisted applicants as they navigate through the licensing process.

The Order of Honour pays tribute to individuals who have rendered conspicuous service to the engineering profession. The rank of Member is bestowed upon those who have served the profession by contributing substantially to its operation or improvement in its status.
