Member of the Order of Honour, 2025 | Upper Canada Chapter

An active PEO volunteer since 2010, Steven Stang has had an outstanding record of volunteer service with PEO at the chapter level, consistently advocating for members and promoting STEM education among local students.

Steven first graduated from Lakehead University with a diploma in Electrical Engineering. He then worked eight years as a Technologist before returning to Lakehead to complete his Bachelor of Electrical Engineering.

Steven first became involved as an Upper Canada Chapter volunteer shortly after receiving his licence certificate at a 2010 chapter licence ceremony. In his first volunteer role, as education coordinator, he liaised with local schools to promote engineering as a career and organize popsicle stick bridge testing competitions. In 2013, Steven became chapter chair, a post he continues to hold. As chair, Steven’s contributions include leading the chapter scholarship program; chairing local technical talks (including the 2024 solar eclipse and an autonomous transportation event),  In 2025, he served as music and entertainment chair for the 2015 International Farm Plowing Match, which included a demonstration of autonomous farm equipment that the chapter created and presented to the hundreds of visiting students

Steven has also been active as a PEO Government Liaison Program (GLP) representative. His outreach efforts with local MPPs led the Upper Canada Chapter to be recognized as the GLP’s best small chapter for 2017 and in 2023. He was instrumental in having former Stormont—Dundas—South Glengarry MPP Jim McDonell recognized as PEO’s ‘MPP of the Year ’in 2017 for his continued support of chapter activities and his impassioned speech at Queen’s Park regarding the repeal of the industrial exemption.

Aside from his volunteering with PEO, Steven is a regular Blood Donor with over 110 donations. He is an accomplished guitar player who along with his three fiddling children have donated their talents to entertain in seniors’ homes and for many charity fund raisers. They have performed at many Celtic events including a tour of Scotland.  Steven is also a third-degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus.
