Mark Haynes, P.Eng., FEC
Member of the Order of Honour, 2025 | Simcoe-Muskoka Chapter
Since joining the Simcoe-Muskoka Chapter executive in 2003, Mark Haynes has worked continuously to raise its profile and establish a strong link between the membership, PEO and the local community.
In his 20+ years as a chapter volunteer leader, Mark has established himself as a cornerstone of the executive team. He has served in many capacities, including chair (2 times), vice chair and education and licence presentation certificate coordinator. As chair in 2007-08, , he championed the re-alignment of the justification criteria and the appropriate distribution of annual Chapter allotments, which formed the guidelines for developing business plans and related chapter allotments employed today. He transformed the Simcoe-Muskoka Chapter from a troubled operation that had limited resources and funding into a flourishing chapter through interfacing with the PEO Chapter Manager and other Chapter members in the East Central Region. During his second tenure as chair (2021), he actively recruited and mentored new members to the Chapter Board. He also facilitated a reform that aligned all Chapters on the annual scholarship submission and evaluation requirements. He has actively participated in all Chapter activities including licence certificate presentations, annual Engineering Month competitions, scholarship assessments and presentations to inspire chapter members to get involved.
He also works closely with the local (Georgian Bay) chapter of the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT), representing PEO and the chapter at their meetings and mutual events, like hockey nights, curling and golf tournaments.
Mark continues to serve on the chapter executive, and his long experience and calm, sensible approach to issues has helped guide new volunteer leaders as they assume chapter leadership positions. His dedication and stalwart efforts as a PEO volunteer and chapter leader have helped maintain a solid foundation for the stability of the Simcoe-Muskoka Chapter.
