John T. W. Yeow, PhD, P.Eng.
An Assistant Professor in the Department of Systems Design Engineering at the University of Waterloo, John Yeow, PhD, P.Eng., is a leader in the design of biomedical micro/nano devices.
His ground-breaking research is focused on designing miniaturized radiation dosimeters, x-ray devices and endoscopes for effective treatment and early diagnosis of diseases. His inventions have also been translated into economical benefits for Canada through ARTsensing Inc., a spin-off company that is commercializing the world’s first transparent and flexible radiation detectors.
Dr. Yeow is also a dedicated teacher and mentor. Since 2004, he has directed the advanced micro/nano devices laboratory at Waterloo. To date, one post-doctoral fellow, 10 doctoral students, eight master’s students, and more than 39 Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council Undergraduate Student Research Award recipients, undergraduate co-op interns and international students have been trained in the lab.
He has co-authored more than 40 peer-reviewed articles about micro- and nanotechnologies in international journals and conferences.
