John St. Marseille, M.Sc. (Eng.), P.Geo., P.Eng., FEC

Member of the Order of Honour, 2026 | Upper Canada Chapter

Since joining the Upper Canada (formerly Eastern) Chapter as a Director-at-Large more than 30 years ago, John St. Marseille has demonstrated exceptional dedication, leadership, and creativity in advancing chapter activities.

Over the years, John has served in numerous roles, including Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretary, Engineer-in-Residence, newsletter editor, and founder and co-chair of the Model Bridge Building Competition, held annually during National Engineering Week. As Treasurer since 2012, he has played a key role in managing chapter finances, including guiding the transition to PEO’s centralized financial system. He also represents the chapter at its ‘Community of Practice – Treasurers’ training and networking sessions.

John has been instrumental in shaping the chapter’s identity, contributing to its 1996 rebranding to “Upper Canada” to better reflect its geographic scope. Known for his resourcefulness and commitment, he also helped organize the 1998 provincial AGM in Cornwall, coordinating logistics and supporting a successful event for delegates across the province.

A strong advocate for professional engagement, John has organized numerous technical tours and speaker events, including visits to major infrastructure projects such as the Eisenhower Lock and Moses Saunders Hydroelectric Generating Station. He has also brought distinguished speakers to the chapter, including Cornwall’s North Channel Bridge designer Dr. Roger Dorton and NASA astronaut Dr. Andrew Feustel. John and his family participated with the PEO Upper Canada Chapter float for the 2017 Santa Claus parade in Cornwall.

John is equally committed to outreach and inclusivity, welcoming new and aspiring engineers, supporting women in engineering, and encouraging youth participation through initiatives like the Model Bridge Building Competition. He has also contributed to the broader community as a judge at the United Counties Science Fair.

John’s longstanding service and leadership have made a lasting impact on the Upper Canada Chapter and the engineering profession.
