Message from the Chapter Chair

Dear Members, Professional Engineers, and Friends,

Welcome to the official website of the PEO York Chapter. It is my responsibility to serve as the Chapter Chair. The Chapter organizes over 50 events annually, including license presentation ceremonies, technical presentations, educational outreach, and mentorship for members pursuing licensure.

Our chapter is a community of professionals focused on upholding engineering values, innovation, and public safety. Whether you are an experienced engineer, a new professional, or interested in engineering, there are resources, events, and opportunities available here for information and engagement.

The PEO York Chapter invites professionals and aspiring leaders to volunteer their time and talents. Whether you're interested in mentoring, supporting outreach events, or driving innovation in our programs, your contribution will be valuable. Volunteering offers the opportunity to expand your network, develop new skills, and be part of a team focused on excellence in engineering. We welcome volunteers of all experience levels and skill sets. Whether you can contribute a few hours occasionally or commit more regularly, all efforts are appreciated.

Please explore our website, stay connected, and feel free to reach out with any inquiries.

Thank you,

Marcia Lim, P. Eng.

York Chapter Committees

  1. The awards & recognition committee recognizes the contributions of Chapter volunteers and leads and develops the Engineering Project of the Year Award.

Engineering Project of the Year Award

The Engineering Project of the Year Award recognizes outstanding technical projects within our community and showcases the achievements of local businesses, while promoting the practice of professional engineering and highlighting our Chapter's activities. We look forward to celebrating your successes!

    Volunteer Service Recognition Program

PEO's Volunteer Recognition Program recognizes the service that volunteers provide to the association. The efforts of volunteers result in many accomplishments and contribute to the operation and success of PEO. The Volunteer Recognition Service program recognizes volunteers who have served on chapters and celebrates achievements of milestone years of service. The recognition pin is awarded to recognize five, 15, and 20 years of service. The Engineers Canada Fellowship pin recognizes 10 years of service. A special sterling silver pin is awarded when a volunteer has 25 or more years of service.

The PEO York Chapter has hosted several successful events for our female members, and as a result of feedback from chapter members, we recognize the need for more focus on Women in Engineering.

One important element is to facilitate a strong networking environment for women in different professional roles. In addition, we will encourage and educate young women to learn more about our dynamic profession.

Events hosted by WIE are open to men and women.

    30 by 30 Initiative

In 2011, Engineers Canada launched a bold mission, the 30 by 30 initiative, a commitment to raising the percentage of newly licensed engineers in Canada who are women to 30 percent by 2030.  The 30 percent figure is widely accepted as the threshold for self-sustaining change.  This commitment has been recently expanded in Engineers Canada’s Strategic Plan 2019 to 2021 to include the professional development and retention of women in the profession.
