PEO York Chapter: New Ontario Building Code and its Impact on Fire and Life Safety Systems

6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Courtyard Toronto Markham

65 Minthorn Blvd, Markham, ON

Event Information:

The 2024 Ontario Building Code (OBC) has been released by the Province of Ontario. For all permit applications that are submitted by December 31, 2024, the 2012 edition of the OBC can still be used.  The new edition of OBC comes into effect on January 1, 2025, with a 3-months grace period (until March 31, 2025) for some projects that are already underway.  This phased approach provides a transition period for the changes in code requirements.

Since one of the main reasons for the updated building code is to improve safety of buildings in the province, there are quite a bit of changes in the new code with regards to fire protection and life safety systems.  In this presentation, we will focus on the changes in the new edition of the Ontario Building Code, on fire and life safety system requirements.  This useful information can be applied to your projects, whether you are an engineer designer, an authority reviewing the permit, or an installing contractor.
