PEO York Chapter - Failures of Designed Components, Devices, and Structures

6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Courtyard by Marriott Toronto Markham

65 Minthorn Boulevard Markham, ON L3T 7Y9

Event Information:

The products we use every day are designed to make our lives easier. Items such as:

  • Wind turbines that produce electricity augmenting the electrical power grid.
  • Heat pumps that make our places warm in winter and cooler in summer.
  • Machines that ensure our vacuum-packed cold cuts shipped to the grocery stores are not contaminated with bacteria.

Unfortunately, these items sometimes fail. Some of them function reliably in the long-term while others fail shortly after their installation or purchase. Such occurrences, always related to a substantial material loss pose questions such as why this happened and what should we do to avoid the recurrence of a such event in the future.

The failure investigations that are going to be discussed in this seminar are intended to answer some of these questions.
