Event Information:

The Pickering Refurbishment Project will extend the operating life of Pickering Nuclear Generating Station's Units 5 to 8 beyond 2026, supporting Ontario's growing electricity demand and electrification needs. The project will preserve 2100 MW of clean, reliable nuclear power for more than 30 years, supplying about 10% of Ontario's electricity, avoiding significant emissions, supporting thousands of jobs, and maintaining a key source of global Cobalt-60 supply.

Now in the Project Definition Phase, refurbishment work will begin after shutdown in 2026 and includes retube and feeder replacement, boiler replacement, turbine generator upgrades, deep water intake construction, balance-of-plant improvements, and facility infrastructure upgrades. As dedicated Training and Mock-Up Facility will support execution. With major economic benefits for Durham Region and Ontario, the project is a critical investment in clean energy, reliability and long-term provincial growth.
