Event Information:

Traffic congestion costs business and commuters $50 billion per year in the Greater Toronto Area. Developing an effective, long-ranch transportation vision and strategy requires a strong understanding of travel demand, which is fundamentally shaped by land use planning. These two disciplines are deeply interconnected.

Although our understanding of efficient movement of people has improved, outdated mindsets and practices continue to limit progress. This presentation will explore why transportation challenges cannot be addressed through "conventional" transportation strategies alone. The way people move depends on where they live, work, and play, and what travel options they have. Thoughtful land use planning—one that fully considers the movement of people and goods — is essential to create a vibrant and sustainable community.
