About

Our Chapter

The Simcoe-Muskoka Chapter is the largest chapter within Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO), representing the highest number of licensed Professional Engineers and Engineering Interns (EITs) in the province.

PEO is the regulatory authority responsible for licencing and governing professional engineers in Ontario. Operating under the Professional Engineers Act, PEO’s primary mandate is to protect the public interest by ensuring that only qualified individuals are permitted to practice engineering or offer engineering services in the province. The organization establishes professional standards, enforces compliance, and disciplines individuals or firms that do not uphold the integrity of the profession.

As a volunteer-driven chapter, we do not maintain a physical office. Instead, our dedicated team of local volunteers organizes a wide range of events and initiatives for EITs and licenced engineers in the Simcoe-Muskoka region. These include PEAK (Practice Evaluation and Knowledge) seminars, technical tours, networking opportunities, social gatherings, conferences, and ceremonies to welcome newly licenced Professional Engineers.

In the same way that the College of Physicians and Surgeons regulates the medical profession and the Law Society of Ontario oversees the legal profession, PEO ensures that engineering in Ontario is practiced safely, ethically, and competently.

Message from the Chapter Chair

Dear Members, Fellow Engineers, and Friends,

It is both a privilege and a personal honor to serve as your Chapter Chair for the 2025–2026 term. Our chapter is more than just a local extension of Professional Engineers Ontario—it’s a vibrant community where ideas take shape, careers are nurtured, and the value of engineering is brought to life in our neighborhoods.

As we step into this new chapter together, I’m filled with optimism and excitement for what lies ahead. This year, we’ll continue to build on our strong foundation, embracing innovation, collaboration, and professional growth. Whether you're a long-standing licence holder, an EIT just beginning your journey, or somewhere in between, this chapter is your space to connect, contribute, and thrive.

My commitment to you is simple: to foster an inclusive and dynamic environment where knowledge flows freely, mentorship is encouraged, and every voice is valued. We’ll be rolling out a wide range of events—from technical seminars and CPD opportunities to outreach initiatives and networking socials—all designed to support your development and celebrate our shared passion for engineering.

I encourage you to get involved, share your insights, and help shape the direction of our chapter. Your participation—whether big or small—makes a difference. Together, we can continue to elevate our profession and inspire the next generation of engineers.

Thank you for your continued support, your dedication to excellence, and your belief in the power of engineering to make a difference. I look forward to an exciting and impactful year ahead with all of you.

Warm regards,

Burhanuddin Musafere P.Eng., PMP
