Engineering Month Social Event at the Ottawa Art Gallery

5:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Ottawa Art Gallery (OAG) at 10 Daly Avenue, Ottawa

We're thrilled to share the exciting news about the social event with the theme of Bridging Logic and Creativity: Introducing Engineers to the World of Visual Art on Friday 13 March 2026. Since Engineering sharpens logic; Art unlocks imagination. When the two meet, the structured precision of the engineer becomes enriched by creativity and empathy, creating a more complete and innovative problem solver.

Agenda:

5:20 PM – Arrival & Welcome Reception

Participants arrive at the Ottawa Art Gallery (OAG) at 10 Daly Avenue, Ottawa.
Light greetings, networking, and a brief introduction to the purpose of the event: celebrating Engineering Month by experiencing creativity in a new environment.

5:30–6:30 PM – Guided OAG Gallery Tour

A Gallery Educator will lead the group through selected pieces from the OAG’s permanent collection, highlighting artistic perspectives, visual language, and creative interpretation.
This segment encourages participants to engage with art beyond analytical thinking.

6:30–7:30 PM – Hands-On Art Workshop

“Relief from Everyday Life (Intro to Relief Printing)”

Participants will take part in a 60‑minute Relief Printing workshop, exploring playful art‑making materials and discovering new forms of expression.

With the guidance of an OAG Gallery Educator, attendees will:

  • Draw inspiration from James Boyd’s 1983 piece Kumarbis is Forced to Land on Mount Kanzuras.
  • Learn the fundamentals of relief printing, using linocut methods.
  • Create their own prints to take home.
  • Work independently or collaborate to foster teamwork and creativity.

7:30- 8:30 PM – Dinner at A La Istanbul Turkish Cuisine

To conclude the evening, the group will walk to A La Istanbul Turkish Cuisine (140 Rideau St, Ottawa) to enjoy a relaxed, social dinner (A 3-course meal).
This is an opportunity to connect with fellow engineers and celebrate Engineering Month in a warm, cultural setting.
