Tech Talk Time 2026 – Talk #3
(Contract Estimating)
The Technical Programs Committee welcomes all Members (PEO and OACETT) to join them for this third
presentation in their continued series of technical talks into 2026, provided by various speakers in
numerous areas of science, technology and engineering. This talk will be on “Contract Estimating”, which is
a topic applicable to all fields of engineering, since each requires experience in estimating quantities and
costs for projects, as well as negotiation of contracts. Our guest speaker, Tom Marshall, has more than four
decades of experience in contract estimating within the construction industry, specifically in the tile and
carpet industry. Based on his in-depth estimating experiences locally and abroad, he plans to provide a
detailed presentation on the basics of contract estimating when reviewing contract drawings and
documents, as well as the complications that can arise when projects do not go as planned. He will also
discuss topics such as the tendering process in the construction industry, and managing a project once it is
awarded to your firm.
