Tech Talk Time 2026 – Talk #2
(Internet Security)
The Technical Programs Committee welcomes all Members (PEO and OACETT) to join them for this second presentation in their continued series of technical talks into 2026, provided by various speakers in numerous areas of science, technology, and engineering. This talk will be on “Internet Security”, which is one of those hard-to-understand and nontangible topics that many of us fear, until the damage to our system has occurred. Our guest speaker, Bob Chomycz, P.Eng., has more than three decades of experience in telecommunications network design, both locally and abroad across North America, including the development and implementation of more than 10,000km of fibre networks since 1998, delivering reliable, high-performance connectivity for many communities and businesses. He is also the author of three respected fibre-optic communication books, such as Planning Fibre Optic Networks and Fibre Optic Installations: A Practical Guide (published by McGraw-Hill). Additionally, he has presented on these topics numerous times to many audiences, because of the need for enhanced knowledge about various Internet risks, especially since society and commercial businesses are so linked to its use. Internet Security is about more than just developing a fancy password. His talk will be based on his many experiences, in providing the quality telecommunication services to the public, and how to protect our devices, networks, and data from various cyber threats. The key details for the talk include the following points:
