About the Presenter:
James Des Cotes is a Principal and Manager of RVA’s Water group, where he is responsible for designing, upgrading, and overseeing infrastructure projects that directly impact communities. James has spent his career working on projects ranging from process optimizations at wastewater treatment plants, to construction of new sanitary sewage pump stations, and to the expansion of a 518MLD rated capacity treatment plant.
Throughout his career James has had the opportunity to work on the solids handling side of wastewater treatment at many facilities across Ontario. He enjoys traveling to sites to enter digesters and walking pump and tunnel galleries to piece together how these systems were intended to operate while reviewing them for potential upgrades or Code compliance issues. James is an active member of the WEAO Residuals & Biosolids committee where he puts his experience working with solids handling to good use by supporting biosolids initiatives.
Synopsis of the Topic: This presentation will provide an overview of the municipal wastewater treatment process which includes a summary of a typical treatment system from wastewater collections, treatment and discharge. The presentation will also touch on the role of a consulting engineer in the treatment process.
Following this overview, the presentation will move into an in-depth review of the solids handling portion of wastewater treatment. The seminar will provide some complete upgrades and refurbishments to solids handling facilities that the presenter worked on. This will also include discussions on condition assessments, code reviews, and lessons learned.
