P.Eng. and C of A applications, renewals, exams
To limit the spread of the COVID-19 virus, PEO has implemented a work at home plan for all its employees until further notice.
PEO staff remain available to respond by phone and email to all inquiries.
Our general reception phone line remains open at (416) 224-1100 or 800-339-3716. You can also reach representatives in our various departments through the online contact forms on our website at www.peo.on.ca/contact.
PEO is no longer directly accepting incoming mail deliveries as of March 27.
Applications for licences and certificates of authorization will not be accepted by mail. Applications received by mail and post-marked after Tuesday, July 14 will not be processed.
Payment of fees and dues, as well as payments for renewals of certificates of authorization, can be made online via PC banking or credit card. Members and applicants are advised not to mail cheques to PEO until further notice.
All fees and dues continue to be payable. Paper invoices and receipts are no longer being sent.
Licensing and Registration
We have updated our P.Eng. application form and modified processes so that applications are to be submitted by email only. P.Eng. applications received by mail and post-marked after Tuesday, July 14 will not be processed.
PEO has put in place an alternate process of receiving and approving new certificate of authorization (C of A) applications while the PEO office is closed due to COVID-19 restrictions. Please see the C of A page for details.
Certificates of authorization are now renewable online via our portal. New digital processes allow for automated distribution of many email communications from PEO, and C of A holders are now able to manage their accounts online.
PEO has adopted the National Professional Practice Exam (NPPE) as a replacement for the PEO-administered PPE. The NPPE is a computer-based, multiple choice examination administered through the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta and is based on the same content and curriculum as the PPE. Joining this program provides PEO with an objective, psychometrically valid and digital professional practice examination. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the NPPE is being offered as a remotely-proctored examination. The first sittings of this new exam occurred in June for those whose March PPE sitting was cancelled. Online registration for future sittings is scheduled to be available on July 1.
Statutory investigations continue. In March, processes were adjusted and communicated to accept and process complaints only by email until further notice. Signed complaint forms should be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org. If you have recently mailed a complaint to PEO and have not received acknowledgment of receipt, please resend the complaint by email to ensure that it is received.
Enforcement staff continue to investigate active matters and respond to new matters submitted by email and voicemail.
PEO’s 98th Annual General Meeting was held virtually on Saturday, May 30, 2020. Please see the 2020 AGM page for more information.
Out of an abundance of caution due to the COVID-19 pandemic, PEO’s Awards Committee has decided to postpone the 2020 Order of Honour gala and presentation of the G. Gordon M. Sterling Engineering Intern Award until 2021. PEO will host an in-person gala for both 2020 and 2021 Order of Honour and Sterling Award recipients during next year’s annual general meeting.
More information will be provided as it becomes available.
