FACT SHEET— PEO ADOPTS OFFICIAL MARKS

Building Design Specialist (BDS)

December 21, 2005

Professional Engineers Ontario is the statutory body that regulates the practice of professional engineering in the Province of Ontario. PEO's regulatory activities include the licensing and regulation of practitioners, and the prevention of unauthorized practice, as well as, the prosecution of those improperly holding themselves out to be licensed or holding a certificate of authorization.

As a public authority, PEO has adopted the following "official marks" under section 9 of the Federal Trade-marks Act as part of PEO's development of an enhanced regulatory regime that will provide for the designation of members and temporary licence holders as specialists, pursuant to section 7(1)(22) of the Professional Engineers Act.

The "official marks" will be used to support the provincial statute, and in the interim, PEO will grant these official marks for use only to individuals that are currently holders of the licence or temporary license issued under section 12(1) of the Professional Engineers Act.

In order to obtain permission to use these official marks, a licence or temporary licence holder will have to enter into a licensing agreement with PEO, and comply with all of the conditions, terms and restrictions associated with the use of PEO's official marks.

PEO has initially adopted the following official marks:
